The Collection
The museum includes a naturalistic field which illustrates the geological eras of the Earth and its chemical components, starting with the evolution of Sicily.
It is an interesting palaeontological section: it is possible to admire fossils and minerals not only from the territory of Prizzi, but also coming from different parts of Sicily. These remains and natural findings are arranged “stratigraphically”, in order to document the evolution of the territory over the last 250 million years, thus telling all transformations it has undergone through in the different geological eras.
There are fossils from the Permian of Sosio until to the Pleistocene, and stratigraphic succession of the Sicilian Upper Miocene Chalk-Sulphur series is well represented.
The material on display is preserved here thanks to a generous donation by engineer Vincenzo Canzoneri, who was involved in the scientific studies of Sicilian quarries and mines.
